PSA: Hummingbird Purchased Through PreRoll-Er
First off, if you’ve ever purchased a Hummingbird through Preroll-Er / Procepack, we want to extend a heartfelt apology. We know there were bumps along the way, and we want to set the record straight. For every successful integration of our Hummingbird PR1, the leader in centrifuge preroll packaging technology, with PreRoll-Er’s BoxFinisher, we have heard or bore witness to an equal if not higher number of complaints and disillusionment.
This post dives into our experience and how we plan on making this up to you.
A Chance Meeting: 2023 ABQ Tradeshow
It all started at the 2023 ABQ tradeshow.
Our journey with Preroller / Procepack began in an unexpected yet powerful way.
2023’s CannaCon tradeshow in New Mexico was a pivotal moment for us. It was the launch of our flagship machine, Hummingbird PR1, the most versatile and most affordable preroll machine on Earth. The energy in New Mexico was electric, and it felt like everything came together in a way we hadn’t anticipated.

Preroll-Er/Procepack was showcasing the BoxFinisher with the KnockBox 100 tray, and it was a disaster. As we all know, working with a KnockBox has its issues and trying to hold it straight up for a the BoxFinisher to grab is one of them. The product coming out of the BoxFinisher was subpar. We stepped in and helped by providing well-packed prerolls, placing them into a Knockbox tray, for their exhibit.
Our first date turned into a full on courtship culminating in a national debut of the Hummingbird PR1 w/ the BoxFinish-Er at MJ Biz Con 2023 and Master Dealer partnership with Procepack / Pre-Roller. It was all sunshine and rainbows.
Off to the Races – PreRoll-Er Never Met a Deal They Didn’t Like
2023 MJ BizCon was a hit.
With our dual debut, deals were coming in quickly, the buzz was growing, and it seemed like we were on track for greatness.
Pre-Roll-Er said yes to every deal, bringing us into the conversation, well after deposits were received and ‘The Package’ paid for. Allowing the false expectation that every cone or blunt is created equal and would work miraculously in the Hummingbird PR1.
Issue #1:
The Hummingbird Workflow is brand cone-specific, so the broad range of cones they accepted created significant challenges. While they were moving fast, it became clear that taking on everything without considering the nuances of each cone brand & sku was a recipe for disaster.
Issue #2:
Cultural Fit. French Canadian Equipment Chads and gritty Oakland Canna veterans just don’t mix well. Our first clue was at our MJ Biz debut – these guys don’t smoke, WTF? Seriously, if you are in the preroll manufacturing business, shouldn’t that be a prerequisite? I guess we like our weed more than we like wine.
Issue #3:
One of the enduring issues we ran into with PreRoller’s BoxFinisher was a critical design flaw. The machine requires 15mm of clearance to properly grab the cone, twist and cut, and crown the preroll. Packing a 109/26 with fluffier material, despite humidity controls and smaller grinds remains extremely challenging.

Excuses are For The Birds
As operators, we know that each batch of ground material behaves differently, making it challenging to hit the ‘Go Button’ on automation and creating a steep learning curve for most operators.
PreRoll-Er’s “hodgepodge” of suggestions—such as investing in climate control, further reducing the grind, and using a better compressor—only created more friction.
We created the Hummingbird to be stress free and Chad Proof. As most you already know, the Hummingbird packs a perfect cone.
